The question of whether or not students should pursue part-time jobs is frequently debated. If you're having trouble making a decision, let's address the benefits and drawbacks so you can make your own decision!

The benefits

  • Learn the value of money by working for yourself.

  • Be responsible and owe up to your own mistakes.

  • Gain confidence and independence.

  • Explore possible career paths.

  • Earn valuable experience.

  • Practice and improve time management.

  • Chances to broaden your network.

The drawbacks

  • Limited time fund for school work and extracurricular activities.

  • Time crunch when traveling between school and work.

  • Can be a distraction from your study.

  • Putting too much stress on yourself, resulting in exhaustion.

  • Not enough time to stay in touch with friends and connections.

  • Possibilities of dropping out to work full-time.

There are positive and negative aspects to having a part-time job. Therefore, before making a choice, you should ask yourself some of these questions:

  • Do you really need it?

  • Is your timetable flexible enough?

Consider carefully before accepting any part-time job while enrolled in university. If you truly believe that you need to do both and are able to handle both of them, then give it a chance.
